Before there were summer camps with air conditioning, catered lunches, and scheduled activities, there was this. The American Boy's Handy Book of Camp-Lore and Woodcraft by Daniel Carter Beard is a wonderfully old-fashioned guide to surviving in the great outdoors, when boys were expected to build their own shelters, start their own fires, and generally fend for themselves. A charming relic of a time when childhood came with considerably more splinters and fewer concerned parents.
